Renovating Hardwood Floors in Manhattan
When N.A. decided it was time to update their floors, they called Wood Flooring Masters for a hardwood floor renovation project in their Manhattan home. With 1,000 sq ft of hardwood flooring, the goal was to bring back the original beauty of the wood through sanding and refinishing. Additionally, they wanted to update the closets by installing waterproof laminate flooring.
Sanding and Refinishing: Restoring the Wood
Sanding and refinishing are essential steps in bringing worn-out hardwood floors back to life. For N.A.’s Manhattan home, we began by carefully sanding the hardwood floors to remove the old finish and smooth out any imperfections. This step is important for preparing the floor for a fresh coat of polyurethane. The sanding process also removes dirt, grime, and scratches, giving the wood a renewed look.
After sanding, the floors were ready for refinishing. N.A. opted for a natural finish with no stain or color change, allowing the beauty of the original wood to shine through. We applied 3 coats of water-based polyurethane to ensure the wood was well protected against wear and tear. The water-based finish dries quickly and provides a durable, long-lasting shield that enhances the wood’s natural grain. The final result was a rich, smooth surface that looked brand new.

Installing Waterproof Laminate in the Closets
In addition to refinishing the hardwood floors, N.A. decided to upgrade the closets with Lifeproof Kettle Hill Oak laminate flooring. The laminate features waterproof technology, making it an ideal choice for areas that might be exposed to moisture, like closets. We installed 70 sq ft of Lifeproof Kettle Hill Oak 14 mm thick laminate flooring in 4 closets. This laminate floor is not only stylish but also highly durable, offering protection against water damage, stains, and scratches. The installation process was quick and efficient, ensuring minimal disruption to N.A.’s daily routine.
Polyurethane Finishing: A Durable Protective Coat
The finishing touch on N.A.’s hardwood floor renovation was the application of 3 coats of water-based polyurethane with a satin finish. This final coat gave the hardwood floors a subtle sheen while adding extra protection against daily wear. The satin finish is popular for its elegant appearance and easy maintenance, making it perfect for high-traffic areas like living rooms, hallways, and kitchens.
With the refinished hardwood floors and new laminate flooring in the closets, N.A.’s home in Manhattan now has a fresh, updated look that combines the classic elegance of wood with the modern benefits of waterproof laminate.
