Hardwood Floor Sanding and Refinishing in Chicago
M.C. from Chicago reached out to Wood Flooring Masters for a complete hardwood floor renovation in their home. The project covered 1,200 square feet of flooring that needed significant restoration. Our team began by sanding the floors to remove the old finish and prepare the wood for staining and refinishing. Sanding is an essential step that ensures the wood is smooth and ready to absorb the new stain, creating a flawless foundation for the entire project.
Wood Filler for Gaps and Imperfections
During the sanding process, we identified gaps and imperfections in the hardwood. To ensure a smooth and even surface, we used wood filler to fill in these gaps. This step is important to achieve a seamless look across the entire floor. The filler blended with the wood, restoring the floor’s integrity and ensuring that the final finish would be consistent and beautiful.
Red Mahogany Stain in Chicago: A Hardwood Floor Renovation Story (Customer: M.C.)
Minwax Red Mahogany Stain for Rich Color
For the stain, M.C. selected Minwax Red Mahogany 225. This rich, deep stain brought a luxurious, warm tone to the hardwood floors, highlighting the natural grain of the wood. Red Mahogany is a popular choice for its sophisticated, reddish-brown hue, which complements both traditional and modern home styles. The stain also adds protection, sealing the wood and enhancing its beauty for years to come.
Three Coats of Water-Based Polyurethane with Semi-Gloss Finish
After staining, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to provide a protective layer and enhance the finish. Water-based polyurethane is known for its durability, quick drying time, and low odor. It provides a clear, glossy finish that makes the Red Mahogany stain pop. M.C. chose a semi-gloss finish, which offers the perfect balance of shine without being too reflective, giving the floors a polished, elegant look while still maintaining a natural feel.
The transformation of M.C.’s 1,200 square feet of hardwood floors in Chicago is a stunning example of how sanding, staining, and refinishing can revive and protect wood floors, creating a beautiful, durable surface that adds warmth and elegance to the home.
