Restoring Damaged Hardwood in the Dining Room
For our customer L.W. on East Sharpnack Street in Philadelphia, PA, we began with a hardwood floor repair project in the dining room. Several damaged boards were replaced to restore the structural integrity and beauty of the floor. Replacing damaged boards is essential for maintaining the durability and seamless appearance of hardwood floors, ensuring they look and perform their best.
Sanding for a Smooth Finish
Once the damaged boards were replaced, we sanded the entire first floor ~400 sq ft area, which included the dining room and living room. Sanding is a critical step in the refinishing process as it removes old finishes, levels the surface, and prepares the wood for sealing. The smooth, clean surface allows the natural wood grain to stand out beautifully.
Repair and Refinishing in Philadelphia: A Hardwood Floor Renovation Story (Customer: L.W.)
Refinishing with a Natural Look
The customer opted for a natural finish with no stain, allowing the rich character and natural patterns of the hardwood to take center stage. A natural finish is timeless and versatile, making it an excellent choice for any home. This approach highlights the unique features of the wood, adding warmth and elegance to the space.
Protective Coating for Long-Lasting Durability
To complete the project, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane. This eco-friendly finish not only enhances the wood’s appearance but also provides excellent protection against daily wear and tear. Its quick-drying properties and low odor make it a favorite among homeowners. The matte sheen added a modern touch, perfectly complementing the overall aesthetic of L.W.’s home.
