The Home & Vision
R.H., a homeowner on Ashland Place in Downtown Brooklyn, reached out to Wood Flooring Masters looking to refresh the look and feel of their 650 sq ft coop. The goal was simple yet specific: remove the old carpeting, install new unfinished red oak flooring, and achieve a natural finish that would brighten the home and match the existing living room tone—without using stains or artificial color changes.
The Project Scope
Our team began by removing 250 sq ft of old carpet that covered part of the coop’s floors. We then installed brand-new 2¼” Red Oak No. 1 hardwood—a high-grade, classic option known for its clean, warm look. A total of 650 sq ft of flooring was installed, sanded, and naturally finished to match the living room’s existing wood tone.
To complete the look, we installed 85 linear feet of shoe molding and a 3-foot reducer to ensure smooth transitions between rooms and surfaces. All flooring materials were supplied by Wood Flooring Masters, guaranteeing quality control from start to finish.
Hardwood Floor Installation & Refinishing in Downtown Brooklyn: A Hardwood Floor Renovation Story (Customer: R.H.)
The Refinishing Process
This Downtown Brooklyn coop needed a tailored approach. After installing the unfinished red oak, our team began a detailed sanding process, carefully leveling the surface and preparing it for finishing.
Following R.H.’s request for a natural look, no stain was applied. Instead, we sealed the floors with three coats of water-based polyurethane, finished in a soft satin sheen. This not only preserved the wood’s original color but also gave it a sleek, low-gloss appearance that complements city living—easy to maintain and visually refined.
The satin water-based poly also helps minimize yellowing over time, making it an ideal choice for light-filled spaces like R.H.’s coop.
The Result & Customer Experience
The end result was a beautifully unified space—clean, timeless, and full of natural character. R.H. was thrilled with the transformation, noting how the new hardwood brought warmth and cohesion to the entire apartment.
Downtown Brooklyn homes often present challenges like tight access and older subfloors, but our team handled everything efficiently and with great care. R.H.’s satisfaction is what we strive for on every project.
