Preparation and Sanding Process
For G.R.’s hardwood floor renovation in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, we started with the essential step of sanding the 915 sq ft of hardwood. Sanding is an important part of refinishing because it helps to remove old finishes, scratches, and any imperfections on the surface of the wood. Using our specialized sanding equipment, we ensured that the floors were smooth, even, and prepared for the next steps of staining and finishing.
Refinishing 12 Steps
In addition to the main floor area, there were 12 steps that needed refinishing. For these steps, we focused on refinishing the tops only. Sanding and refinishing these steps ensured that they matched the rest of the floors, providing a seamless and cohesive look throughout the space. The natural wood look was maintained without any color change, preserving the original beauty of the hardwood.

Applying the Polyurethane
Once the sanding was done, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to protect the floors. Polyurethane is essential for safeguarding the wood from scratches, stains, and wear over time. The water-based formula is durable, quick-drying, and provides a clear protective layer that doesn’t alter the natural look of the wood. Three coats were applied to ensure long-lasting protection and an even finish across the entire floor and steps.
Satin Finish for a Polished Look
To complete the renovation, we added a satin finish to the floors. The satin finish gives the hardwood a soft, smooth sheen without being overly glossy. This finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood while offering a refined, elegant appearance. The satin finish also helps with durability, making the floors easier to maintain while still looking beautiful for years to come.
