Introduction to the Refinishing Project
Hardwood floor refinishing in Valley Stream was the goal for K.R., who wanted to transform their 2,200 sq ft hardwood floors and 12 steps at 52 Halyard Rd, Valley Stream, NY 11581. K.R. contacted Wood Flooring Masters for expert sanding, staining, and refinishing services to bring out the natural beauty of their floors. Our team was eager to help restore and enhance the look of the hardwood, creating a stunning finish that would last for years to come.
Sanding and Preparing the Wood
The first part of the process involved sanding the floors and steps. Sanding is essential for removing old finishes, dirt, and imperfections, leaving the wood smooth and ready for refinishing. Our team carefully sanded the 2,200 sq ft of flooring and the 12 steps, ensuring a uniform surface. We also removed any nails that were visible, as they could cause unevenness in the final finish. Proper preparation with sanding and nail removal was key to achieving a flawless result for the entire space.

Staining with Jacobean Color
After sanding, we applied Jacobean stain to the floors and steps. Jacobean is a dark, rich color that highlights the natural grain of the wood while giving it a sophisticated, elegant look. This stain not only deepened the color of the wood but also added warmth and character to the space. The even application of the Jacobean stain brought out the hardwood’s beauty, preparing it for the final refinishing stage.
Refinishing with Polyurethane and High Gloss Finish
To complete the renovation, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to the floors and steps. This type of polyurethane is perfect for high-traffic areas as it provides durability, scratch resistance, and moisture protection. The three coats ensured a long-lasting, protective finish. Finally, we added a high gloss finish to give the floors a shiny, polished appearance. The high gloss finish added a sleek, modern look while enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.
