Project Overview
Natural Finish in Manhattan was the focus of a recent hardwood floor renovation for our customer, J.S. With 220 square feet of hardwood in the dining room and a smaller foyer area, J.S. wanted to restore the natural beauty of their floors while ensuring they were protected for the future. Our team provided expert sanding, refinishing, and polyurethane services to bring out the best in the wood.
Sanding and Refinishing the Dining Room
The dining room, which covered 220 sq ft of space, was thoroughly sanded to remove the old finish and any imperfections. Sanding is a key step to restore the natural wood look and prepare the surface for refinishing. After sanding, we applied a natural finish, meaning there was no stain or color change. This allowed the wood’s natural grain and texture to shine through while providing a clean, fresh appearance. Once the wood was prepared, we finished the process with a durable water-based polyurethane for protection.

Polyurethane Application for Long-Lasting Protection
After sanding the dining room, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to both the dining room and foyer areas. Water-based polyurethane is a great option for refinishing because it dries quickly, has a clear finish, and doesn’t yellow over time. This helps to preserve the wood’s natural look while offering long-lasting protection against daily wear and tear. Three coats ensure the floor stays durable, even in high-traffic areas like the dining room.
Satin Finish for a Soft, Elegant Shine
To complete the renovation, a satin finish was applied to the floors. The satin finish provides a smooth, elegant shine without the high gloss of a glossy finish. This subtle sheen is perfect for homeowners who want a sophisticated look with easy maintenance. The satin finish is also ideal for homes with children and pets, as it hides dirt and fingerprints better than a glossier finish.
