Sanding for a Fresh Start
Wood Flooring Masters was hired by D.S. for a hardwood floor renovation in Calumet City, IL. The project focused on sanding, staining, and refinishing 950 square feet of hardwood flooring. The first step was sanding the existing floors to remove old finishes, scratches, and imperfections. Sanding is a critical part of the process to restore the wood’s smooth texture and create the perfect base for the next steps.
Custom Staining for Unique Style
Once the floor was properly sanded, D.S. selected a custom stain to personalize their hardwood floors. Staining enhances the natural grain of the wood, adding color and depth to the space. The stain applied was chosen carefully to match D.S.’s vision and to complement the overall décor of the home. This added richness and warmth to the red oak flooring, setting the tone for the entire room.

Durable Polyurethane Finishing
The next step in the renovation process was applying three coats of water-based polyurethane to the freshly stained hardwood floors. This type of finish is known for its durability and ability to protect the wood from everyday wear and tear. Water-based polyurethane also dries faster and is more environmentally friendly than traditional oil-based finishes. D.S. opted for a semi-gloss finish, which provides a subtle sheen while maintaining a natural wood look.
A Stunning Transformation
After the final coat of polyurethane dried, D.S. was left with a beautifully refinished hardwood floor. The 950 square feet of red oak now has a vibrant, smooth surface that will look fantastic for years. The combination of sanding, staining, and refinishing created a high-quality, long-lasting result, transforming D.S.’s home into a more inviting and stylish space.
