Project Overview: A Comprehensive Hardwood Floor Renovation
A.H. from Drexel Hill contacted Wood Flooring Masters for a major hardwood floor renovation. The project included 1,450 sq ft of flooring, which involved removing carpet, sanding, refinishing, and adding new hardwood in the basement. A.H. opted to keep the wood’s natural color and finished the floors with three coats of water-based polyurethane for long-lasting protection.
Removing Carpet and Preparing the Hardwood Floor
The first step in the renovation was the removal of old carpet across 1,450 sq ft of space. After removing the carpet and padding, our team carefully cleaned the exposed hardwood beneath. This preparation ensured the hardwood floor was ready for the sanding process, which is essential for restoring the wood’s original beauty and smoothness.

Sanding and Refinishing the Existing Hardwood
Once the carpet was removed, we sanded the existing hardwood floors to eliminate any imperfections, old finishes, and dirt. Sanding is a key part of refinishing because it allows the wood to absorb new finishes evenly. After sanding, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to give the floor a durable, glossy finish. The natural color of the wood was preserved, as no stain was used, ensuring that the floor maintained its original look.
Installing New Hardwood in the Basement
In addition to refinishing the main floor, A.H. wanted new hardwood installed in two rooms of the basement, covering a 300 sq ft area. We installed high-quality Bruce hardwood, glued down to ensure a secure, durable surface. This new hardwood seamlessly blended with the refinished floors, adding warmth and elegance to the basement while maintaining a consistent style throughout the home.
