Introduction to the Renovation Project
Wood Floor Renovation in Manhattan was the goal for our customer, I.B., who wanted to refresh the hardwood floors in their home. Located at 160 W 87th St, Upper West Side, Manhattan, New York, NY 10024, I.B. reached out to us for our expertise in sanding, staining, and refinishing hardwood floors. The goal was to transform an 800 sq ft area that included two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, and hallways. Our experienced team at Wood Flooring Masters was ready to bring I.B.’s vision to life.
Sanding: The First Step in the Process
The first phase of the hardwood floor renovation was sanding, a crucial step to prepare the floors for staining and refinishing. Our sanding process removes old finishes and smooths out any imperfections in the wood surface. With 800 sq ft of floor space to cover, we ensured that every area, including the two bedrooms, living room, dining room, and hallways, received careful attention. The sanding helped restore the wood’s natural beauty and provided a clean surface for the next steps in the process.

Staining: Customizing the Look
After sanding, the next step was staining the floors. I.B. chose a custom water-based stain, which is an eco-friendly option known for its long-lasting results. We applied one coat of the stain, chosen based on I.B.’s preferences, to achieve the desired color for their space. The stain accentuated the natural grain of the hardwood, giving the floors a fresh and polished look that complemented the home’s interior.
Refinishing with Polyurethane: Protection and Shine
The final phase of the hardwood floor renovation was refinishing the floors with a high-quality water-based polyurethane. This protective layer not only enhanced the natural beauty of the wood but also ensured durability. We applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to create a smooth and long-lasting finish, which provided additional protection against wear and tear. This step is crucial to extending the life of the hardwood floors while maintaining their stunning appearance.
