Plywood Subfloor Installation
Next, the team at Wood Flooring Masters installed a plywood subfloor across an area of 392 sq ft. A solid subfloor is crucial for ensuring the stability of the new hardwood flooring, especially when the subfloor area is larger. Using high-quality plywood ensures long-term durability and enhances the overall structural integrity of the floor.

Unfinished White Oak Hardwood Flooring Installation
After the subfloor was ready, the real transformation began with the installation of unfinished hardwood flooring. The customer selected 3-1/4″ White Oak #1 for this project, which was installed across 392 sq ft of space. White Oak is known for its beautiful grain patterns, strength, and versatility, making it an ideal choice for both traditional and contemporary home styles. The unfinished hardwood provides a blank canvas for customization with sanding and finishing to achieve the perfect look.
Sanding, Refinishing, and Finishing Touches
The next phase involved sanding and refinishing a total of 820 sq ft of the floor. The sanding process smooths out any imperfections in the wood, followed by a refinishing step to restore its natural beauty. For this project, the team also applied a prefinished wood bleaching to give the White Oak a lighter, more modern appearance. Finally, a satin finish with three coats of water-based polyurethane was applied to protect the wood and give it a polished, smooth surface.
By the end of the renovation, L.R. had a stunning hardwood floor that truly transformed their home in Long Island City. The combination of high-quality materials, expert installation, and finishing ensured that the floor would stand the test of time, adding both beauty and value to their living space.
