Preparing the Space for Excellence
Our project for A.S. in Manhattan started with the careful preparation of 650 sq ft of flooring, including the front entryway. To ensure a seamless workflow, we moved all furniture and assessed the condition of the hardwood floors and steps. Preparation is a vital step in achieving lasting results.
Repairing and Replacing Steps
The staircase was a focal point of this renovation. We repaired 64 damaged treads and refinished their tops to restore their natural beauty. Additionally, we replaced 7 steps, using high-quality materials to ensure durability and style. Proper attention to detail during this phase ensured a safe and visually stunning staircase.

Sanding and Staining the Floors
We meticulously sanded the hardwood floors to remove old finishes and imperfections, creating a smooth and even surface. A.S. selected a custom stain color to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. We applied one coat of this stain to bring warmth and elegance to the space, perfectly complementing the home’s aesthetic.
Applying Durable Water-Based Polyurethane
To protect the newly refinished floors and steps, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane. Using Bona Traffic for this project ensured a durable, long-lasting finish with a satin sheen. This top-tier polyurethane offers excellent resistance to scratches and wear, making it perfect for high-traffic areas like entryways and staircases.
