Sanding and Refinishing Hardwood Floors in Indiana
For this project, Wood Flooring Masters took on a hardwood floor renovation for our valued customer, J.B., in Highland, Indiana. The focus was on revitalizing a 300 sq. ft. area, including refinishing five steps, which were a significant feature of the space. Sanding and staining are critical to bringing new life to older hardwood floors, and for J.B., this process was essential to match the bottom of the stairs’ darker stain.
Staining to Match the Existing Hardwood Floor
A key element of this renovation was the staining process. The client wanted the refinished steps to match the dark color already present at the bottom of the stairs. Our team carefully applied the stain to ensure consistency and a seamless look between the stairs and the rest of the flooring. This is an essential step in many refinishing projects, as it allows for a cohesive design that complements the entire space.

Applying Protective Polyurethane Coating
To protect the newly stained hardwood, we applied two coats of oil-based polyurethane. This not only enhances the natural beauty of the wood but also ensures long-lasting durability. Oil-based polyurethane is known for its ability to add depth to the wood’s color while offering a tough finish that can withstand daily wear and tear. For J.B.’s home, this protective layer was especially important to maintain the refinished steps’ rich, dark hue.
The Importance of Professional Sanding and Staining
Sanding, staining, and refinishing require a high level of precision and expertise. In J.B.’s case, the refinishing focused on enhancing both the steps and the flooring while achieving a perfect color match. Our team at Wood Flooring Masters takes pride in every step of the process, ensuring a flawless finish that homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
This project highlights the expertise needed for floor refinishing, and the satisfaction of seeing hardwood floors restored to their full potential.
