Removing the Carpet
The hardwood floor renovation for A.B. started with the removal of old carpet from their 220 sq ft space in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Carpet can hide the natural beauty of hardwood floors, so once it was removed, we uncovered the potential of the hardwood beneath. This step helped prepare the floors for sanding, allowing us to smooth out any imperfections and make the surface ready for staining and refinishing.
Sanding the Hardwood Floors
After removing the carpet, we began sanding the hardwood floors. Sanding is an essential part of the renovation process as it helps remove old finishes, scratches, and any remaining adhesive from the carpet. Our team used specialized sanding equipment to ensure that the 220 sq ft of hardwood was smooth and even. This step not only improved the appearance of the wood but also prepared it for the next phase, allowing the stain to adhere properly for a flawless finish.

Staining the Hardwood Floors
Once the sanding was complete, we applied a stain that matched the existing color of the wood. The goal was to ensure the newly refinished hardwood floors blended seamlessly with the rest of the space, providing a cohesive look throughout. The stain enhanced the natural grain of the wood and gave the floor a rich, warm tone. By matching the stain, we preserved the original charm of the hardwood while giving it a refreshed, updated appearance.
Polyurethane and Semi-Gloss Finish
To complete the renovation, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to protect the floors and enhance the finish. Polyurethane is a durable, clear coating that helps shield the wood from scratches, moisture, and wear. The three coats of polyurethane ensured the floors were well-protected for years to come. We finished the process with a semi-gloss topcoat, which provided a subtle shine without being overly glossy. This finish brought out the natural beauty of the wood and gave the floors a sleek, polished look.
