How We Do It? – Laminate Installation
1) Surface Preparation
We begin by preparing the space, which involves clearing out furniture, removing old flooring (if needed), and ensuring the subfloor is clean, level, and dry. This step is crucial because a solid foundation guarantees the longevity of the laminate. We also check for moisture issues to prevent future damage.
Before installation, we let the laminate planks acclimate for 24/48 hours in the room where they’ll be installed.
2) Underlayment or Moisture Barrier Installation
Next, we lay down an underlayment. This layer provides cushioning, reduces noise, and acts as a moisture barrier. Depending on the project, we might use foam, cork, or another suitable material to create a stable base for the laminate.
3) Planning the Layout
We then measure and plan the layout to ensure a clean, balanced look. This involves calculating the plank arrangement to minimize waste and avoid narrow strips along the edges. Proper planning at this stage helps us achieve a professional finish.
4) Installation (Click-and-Lock or Glue)
With everything set, we start installing the laminate, using a floating floor method where the planks lock together without glue or nails.
We leave a small expansion gap around the perimeter to allow the floor to expand and contract naturally with temperature changes.
As we work, we make precise cuts for a seamless fit around obstacles like door frames and vents.
5) Baseboards and Final Touches
After installing the laminate, we place transition strips at doorways and install baseboards (optional) to create a seamless look while covering any expansion gaps. We also perform a final cleanup before handing over the project. For more information about trimming, please visit this page.
