When R.G. from East 56th Street in Midtown East, Manhattan reached out to Wood Flooring Masters, they were looking for more than just a flooring upgrade—they wanted an elegant transformation. With a clear vision in mind and high expectations for both form and function, our team delivered a fully customized flooring solution that elevated their space with timeless sophistication.
A Stunning Transformation Begins
This project began with the removal of existing hardwood flooring. Once the old materials were cleared and debris removed, our team moved forward with precision leveling. We used self-leveling compounds, applied a professional sealer, installed a 5mm underlayment, and used only the best quality glue to ensure a stable, smooth foundation—crucial for the intricate herringbone pattern that was to follow.
Next came the installation of unfinished hardwood flooring, hand-selected by Wood Flooring Masters with an extra 10% included to account for layout waste and breakage—especially important for herringbone design, which demands precise cuts and pattern alignment.

Sanding, Staining, and the Finishing Touches
Once the floors were installed, we began the sanding process to prepare the surface for finishing. The customer selected a custom stain color, which we applied in one even coat. To protect and enhance the beauty of the wood, we applied three coats of premium water-based polyurethane, finished with Bona Traffic, one of the industry’s most durable and environmentally friendly finishes.
This combination gave the newly installed herringbone floor a smooth, luxurious, and long-lasting surface—perfectly suited for the upscale apartments of Midtown East.
