Proper acclimation of wood flooring starts with correct storage at the job site. The boards should be cross-stacked and spaced to allow air circulation. Most manufacturers recommend acclimating the materials for at least 3 days.
The area needs to be properly prepared. This includes removing any existing hardwood floors, carpets, or tiles. In some cases, we can install the new flooring over the existing hardwood.
The floor is prepared for hardwood installation by steps such as installing plywood, applying primer, using glue, adding a moisture barrier, and laying down underlayment (optional).
The installation process is tailored to the type of wood being used: click, nail down, glue down, or a combination of nail and glue. Keep in mind that no two boards will be identical; variations in appearance are completely normal.
Once the installation is complete, the refinishing process begins. After sanding, stain is applied if the customer desires, followed by the application of polyurethane. The process is finished with a final coat. To learn more, visit our refinishing process page.
We install baseboards (optional), place door thresholds, and conduct a final cleanup before handing over the project. For more information about trimming, please visit this page.
