Sanding and Refinishing Process
At Wood Flooring Masters, we had the opportunity to work on a beautiful hardwood floor renovation for S.P. in Manhattan. The project covered 529 sq ft, including the living room, dining area, and two bedrooms. The renovation process began with sanding the existing floors, which helped remove old finishes, scratches, and imperfections. Sanding is a crucial step to prepare the wood for the next stages and to restore the floor’s natural beauty. The sanding process is essential in ensuring that the wood’s texture is smooth and ready for the stain and polyurethane finish.
Custom Staining Selection
For this renovation, S.P. chose to apply a custom stain to the floors, giving them a personalized look. Wood Flooring Masters worked with the customer to help select the perfect stain color that would complement the style and atmosphere of their home. Staining is an essential step when you want to change the color or highlight the natural grain of the wood. The stain not only adds aesthetic value but also enhances the wood’s durability and protection.

Water-Based Polyurethane Coating
After the sanding and staining were completed, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to the floors. This polyurethane finish provides a strong, durable layer of protection that ensures the floor can withstand everyday wear and tear. The water-based polyurethane is a great choice for maintaining the beauty of the wood while ensuring a durable finish. It also dries quickly, minimizing the downtime for the customer. This protective coating helps the floors resist stains, scratches, and moisture, ensuring long-term durability.
The Final Look
The final result of this hardwood floor renovation was a stunning transformation that gave S.P.’s floors a fresh and polished appearance. The custom stain added richness to the wood, and the polyurethane finish gave the floor a smooth, durable surface. The water-based polyurethane provided a clear, satin-like finish that perfectly complemented the home’s décor. The floors now look beautiful and are ready to withstand daily use, offering both elegance and practicality.
