Introduction: Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Floral Park
E.K. reached out to Wood Flooring Masters for a hardwood floor renovation in Floral Park, Queens, NY. With 950 sq ft of flooring in need of sanding, staining, and refinishing, this project was set to transform E.K.’s home. The job involved not only refinishing the main floors but also sanding and refinishing 13 steps, giving the entire space a fresh, new look.
Floor Sanding and Refinishing Process
The project began with sanding, a crucial step in any floor renovation. Sanding helps to remove the old finish and smoothens the surface, preparing it for the new stain and polyurethane coating. Our expert team worked meticulously on the 950 sq ft floor and 13 steps, ensuring that every inch was thoroughly sanded and ready for the next stages.
After sanding, we moved on to the refinishing process. This step ensures that the floors not only look beautiful but also have a long-lasting finish that can withstand everyday wear and tear. For the main floors, we used a stain color called Country White 101, which gave the room a bright, airy feel. The flight of stairs received a slightly darker finish with Coffee Bean stain (123/223), providing a beautiful contrast and highlighting the steps.

The Staining and Polyurethane Finish
The staining process was carefully executed to create a seamless, consistent look across the entire space. The Country White 101 stain for the floors gave the hardwood a fresh and elegant tone, while the Coffee Bean stain on the stairs brought out the richness and depth of the wood. Staining not only adds color but also enhances the natural grain of the wood, making it shine.
After the staining was complete, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to seal and protect the floors. This protective coating ensures that the floors stay in excellent condition for years to come, resisting scratches, stains, and damage. Our team used a high-quality water-based polyurethane to maintain the beauty of the stain and provide durability without compromising the wood’s natural appearance.
Steps Refinishing
In addition to the main floor, we also focused on the 13 steps leading to the upper level. These steps were carefully sanded, stained with the same Coffee Bean shade, and finished with the same protective three-coat polyurethane layer. This attention to detail ensures the entire space, including the stairs, looks cohesive and beautifully refinished.
This flooring renovation project in Floral Park was a true transformation, leaving E.K. with stunning hardwood floors and stairs that will last for many years.
