Y&A.J.’s home on 16th Street in South Slope, Brooklyn had great bones—but it needed a fresh look that could match their style. They reached out to Wood Flooring Masters with a vision of warm, modern hardwood floors and a completely updated staircase that would blend seamlessly with the rest of their space.
The Project Scope
This was no small job. We installed 1,200 sq ft of 4-inch prefinished engineered hardwood using a floating installation method—ideal for homes like theirs that need a clean, quiet process. We added 1,200 sq ft of precision-cut shoe molding to create clean floor-to-wall transitions.
In addition, we replaced and refinished 15 stair treads with custom sanding and color-matching, making sure the stairs flowed naturally with the new flooring. Finally, 60 stair spindles were replaced, giving the staircase a sleek, refreshed look that tied the whole project together.

The Installation Process
Our approach was detailed and customized. We started with prep work to ensure the subfloors were level and ready for the floating hardwood system. The prefinished engineered wood offered both durability and style—perfect for South Slope’s residential charm.
We then moved to the staircase, carefully removing and replacing the treads. Using stains that closely matched the existing wood tones, we sanded and refinished each tread to a smooth, lasting finish. Each spindle was installed securely, chosen for both design and safety, giving the staircase a modern but timeless appeal.
