Inspecting and Preparing the Hardwood Floor
Floor Staining in Manhattan was the focus of our recent project for A.G., where Wood Flooring Masters transformed 500 sq ft of hardwood flooring. This comprehensive renovation included sanding, staining, refinishing, and the replacement of damaged boards, all finished with three coats of water-based polyurethane to enhance durability and beauty.
The first step in this Manhattan floor renovation was a thorough inspection. A.G.’s hardwood floors showed visible wear and damage, with 50 sq ft of planks needing replacement. To ensure a seamless look, Wood Flooring Masters provided all necessary materials, matching the new boards with the existing floor for consistent color and grain. Detailed preparation is essential in any hardwood repair and refinishing project to ensure an even, beautiful finish.
Replacing Damaged Boards for a Solid Foundation
After our inspection, we began by replacing the damaged sections (we forgot 🙁 to take pics of the repair unfortunately). Each of the 50 sq ft of replacement boards was carefully installed to align perfectly with the original planks, creating a solid foundation for sanding and staining. Board replacement is crucial in hardwood floor restoration, as it prevents future issues and allows for a high-quality finish. With these new boards in place, the floor was ready for the next stage of the transformation.

Sanding and Staining for Rich, Even Color
Once the damaged boards were replaced, we moved on to sanding and staining the entire 500 sq ft. Sanding is a key step in hardwood refinishing, removing imperfections and leveling the surface. After sanding, we applied a rich stain to bring out the wood’s natural grain and add warmth to A.G.’s Manhattan home. Staining adds depth to hardwood, making it an ideal choice for those looking to enhance their floor’s natural beauty.
Applying Water-Based Polyurethane for Lasting Protection
The final step in A.G.’s hardwood floor renovation was applying 3 coats of water-based polyurethane. This protective layer offers excellent scratch resistance and a clear finish that enhances the stained color of the wood. Each coat of polyurethane was applied with care, creating a glossy and durable surface that withstands daily wear. Water-based polyurethane is a popular choice for hardwood refinishing as it provides a strong, long-lasting finish without altering the floor’s natural look.
Wood Flooring Masters is proud to offer professional hardwood floor refinishing services for Manhattan residents. A.G.’s project showcases how sanding, staining, and protective finishing can transform and extend the life of any hardwood floor, bringing new beauty and resilience to any living space.
