A Sophisticated Refresh in Murray Hill

C&A.J., residents of Park Avenue in the heart of Murray Hill, Manhattan, reached out to Wood Flooring Masters with a desire to refresh and modernize 400 square feet of hardwood flooring in their apartment. With refined taste and attention to detail, they selected a contemporary stain and finish to give their floors a soft, updated look without compromising the classic charm of their space.

Their goals were clear: restore the original floor, fix a small gap, and achieve a smooth, satin-finished result with a subtle, weathered aesthetic.

Precision Work in a Manhattan Apartment Setting

We began the project using a 110V sanding machine, ideal for Manhattan apartments where power limitations and building regulations often prevent the use of heavier, industrial equipment. The floor was carefully sanded to remove the existing finish, smooth out imperfections, and prepare it for the next stage.

Next, we addressed a small gap in the flooring, making necessary repairs to ensure a seamless look and solid feel underfoot. Once the repairs were complete, we applied Duraseal’s Weathered Oak stain—a soft, modern hue that enhances the wood grain while delivering a neutral, timeless finish.

To protect and preserve the floor, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane. This low-VOC option is a perfect fit for New York City homes, offering fast drying times and a safer indoor air environment. The project was completed with a smooth satin finish, offering a warm, elegant glow without high gloss.
