Sanding the Hardwood Floors
The renovation process for B.M. began with sanding the 900 sq ft of hardwood floors in their home at 304 W 89th St, Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY 10024. Sanding is a crucial step in any hardwood floor renovation as it helps to remove old finishes, dirt, and scratches. Our team used specialized sanding equipment to create a smooth, clean surface, preparing the floors for the next steps of staining and refinishing. The sanding process ensured that the hardwood floors would absorb the stain and finish evenly, providing a flawless result.
Staining with Driftwood
After sanding, we applied Driftwood stain to the 900 sq ft of hardwood flooring. Driftwood is a light, neutral color that gives the wood a modern, beachy look while still highlighting its natural grain. This stain created a subtle and sophisticated finish that brightened up the space, giving the floors a fresh and airy feel. The Driftwood stain was carefully applied to ensure an even color across the entire floor area, including all the rooms on the property, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.

Refinishing with Water-Based Polyurethane
Once the Driftwood stain had dried, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to the floors. Water-based polyurethane is a popular choice for refinishing hardwood floors because it dries quickly and has low odor. The three coats provided a durable, protective layer that helped prevent scratches, stains, and other signs of wear. The polyurethane also worked to seal the wood, protecting it from moisture and ensuring that the floors remain beautiful for many years to come.
Semi-Gloss Finish for a Polished Look
To complete the renovation, we applied a semi-gloss finish to the hardwood floors. The semi-gloss finish gave the floors a subtle shine, enhancing the overall appearance without making the floors too glossy. It provided the perfect balance of a polished, modern look while still maintaining the natural beauty and texture of the wood. This finish not only boosted the aesthetic appeal of the floors but also added an extra layer of protection, ensuring that the floors would continue to look great over time.
