We began by sanding the entire 1,000 sq ft of existing hardwood flooring to strip away old finishes and prepare the surface for staining. Each of the 12 stair treads was carefully sanded on the tops only, allowing us to preserve the structure while renewing the visible surfaces.
Next, we applied the Dark Natural stain, which highlighted the rich texture of the wood and created a more grounded and elegant ambiance. To protect and seal the floors, we used three coats of high-quality water-based polyurethane, known for its quick drying, low odor, and excellent durability—especially important for busy homes in suburban Long Island.
