Introduction to the Refinishing Project
R.Z., a customer from Flushing, NY, reached out to us for help with their 670 sq ft hardwood floors. Over time, their floors had accumulated wear and tear, and the wood needed attention to restore its beauty. The plan was to sand, stain, and refinish the floors to make them look like new again. With our sanding and refinishing services, we helped R.Z. achieve the desired look for their space with a stunning, long-lasting finish.
Sanding the Hardwood Floors
The first step in R.Z.’s hardwood floor renovation was sanding the 670 sq ft of hardwood. Sanding is essential for removing old finishes, imperfections, and scratches that had built up over the years. It smooths out the surface and prepares the wood for the next steps in the refinishing process. We used professional sanding equipment to ensure an even and dust-free result. Sanding is crucial for a flawless finish, as it ensures that the stain and polyurethane will adhere evenly and last longer.

Staining the Hardwood Floors
Once the sanding was complete, the next step was to apply the stain. R.Z. chose the stain color, which they provided, to give the floors the perfect shade. Staining is an important part of the process because it enhances the natural beauty of the wood, adding color and depth. It also helps bring out the wood grain, making the floors look more elegant and vibrant. After applying the stain, we allowed it to dry before moving on to the refinishing step.
Refinishing with Oil-Based Polyurethane
After the stain had dried, we applied two coats of oil-based polyurethane. Oil-based polyurethane is known for its durability and long-lasting protection. This finish helps protect the wood from scratches, spills, and other damage, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. The oil-based formula also gives the wood a rich, warm finish with a beautiful depth of color. The two coats ensured that R.Z.’s hardwood floors would have a strong, protective layer that would keep them looking great for years.
