Sanding and Refinishing Hardwood Floors in Manhattan
At Wood Flooring Masters, we recently had the opportunity to work on a beautiful hardwood floor renovation for our client, K.M., located in Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood. The project included sanding, staining, and refinishing over a large area of 520 square feet. Our team’s goal was to restore the beauty of the wood floors while ensuring a long-lasting, durable finish.
Repairing and Refinishing with Precision
Before starting the refinishing process, we carefully repaired any imperfections in the floor using wood filler. This step ensured that the floor was smooth and even, creating the perfect surface for sanding and refinishing. After the repairs, we began sanding the floors to remove any old finishes and bring out the natural beauty of the wood beneath.

Custom Stain for a Unique Look
For this project, K.M. chose a custom stain to give the hardwood floors a fresh, unique appearance. The stain was applied with one coat, enhancing the wood’s natural grain while giving it a rich, personalized tone. The custom stain choice helped match the overall decor of the space, complementing the modern yet warm feel K.M. desired for their home.
Protective Satin Finish with Water-Based Polyurethane
To ensure durability, we applied three coats of water-based polyurethane to the floors. This finish is known for its fast drying time, low odor, and long-lasting protection. The satin finish K.M. selected provides a smooth, subtle shine that enhances the wood’s natural beauty without being too glossy. The combination of water-based polyurethane and the satin finish ensures that K.M.’s floors will look great for years to come, even with daily use.
