Project Overview
C.B. from Harlem, NY, wanted to revitalize their hardwood floors by sanding, staining, and refinishing a 600 sq ft area. The goal was to restore the natural look of the wood while maintaining a clean, elegant finish. C.B. opted for a neutral stain to enhance the wood’s natural beauty and a semi-gloss finish for added shine and protection.
Sanding and Preparing the Hardwood Floors
The renovation process started with sanding the 600 sq ft of hardwood flooring. Sanding is crucial for removing any old finishes, dirt, and imperfections. It smooths out the surface of the wood and prepares it for staining. This step ensures that the new stain will be applied evenly and create a beautiful, flawless result. The sanding process left the wood clean and ready for the next steps.
Semi-Gloss Finish in Harlem: A Staining and Refinishing Story (Customer: C.B.)
Staining with a Neutral Color
After sanding, the next step was staining the hardwood. C.B. selected a neutral stain to maintain a natural look that would complement any home décor. The neutral stain enhances the wood’s grain while giving it a subtle, timeless color. It’s perfect for creating a classic look without overpowering the space. The stain was carefully applied to ensure even coverage, bringing out the natural charm of the wood.
Applying a Semi-Gloss Polyurethane Finish
Once the stain dried, three coats of water-based polyurethane were applied to protect the floors. Water-based polyurethane is known for its quick drying time and resistance to yellowing over time. It provides a clear, durable finish that shields the wood from scratches, stains, and daily wear. The final touch was the semi-gloss finish, which added a sleek, polished look while making the floors easy to clean and maintain. This finish provides a balanced shine, enhancing the natural beauty of the hardwood.
