Project Overview
M.C. from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, wanted to refresh the look of their hardwood floors, so they chose our sanding, staining, and refinishing services. The project covered two areas, one with 300 sq ft and another with 127 sq ft, for a total of 427 sq ft. With the application of colonial maple stain, the floors were given a fresh, warm tone, and the refinishing provided an updated look while maintaining the wood’s natural beauty.
Sanding the Floors
The first step in the process was sanding the floors. Sanding is essential for removing old finishes, scratches, and imperfections from the wood surface. This process allows the new stain and finish to adhere properly and gives the floor a smooth, even surface. Sanding also restores the wood’s natural texture, giving it a fresh, clean look.

Colonial Maple Staining and Refinishing
After sanding, the next step was applying the colonial maple stain. Staining enhances the natural grain of the wood while adding a rich, warm color. Colonial maple is a popular choice for homeowners looking for a classic, light to medium-toned finish that complements many styles of interior décor. The floors were then refinished with three coats of water-based polyurethane to protect and preserve the stained wood.
Protective Semi-Gloss Finish
To complete the project, a semi-gloss finish was applied to the floors. The semi-gloss finish gives the floors a subtle shine that enhances the wood’s color and texture without being too reflective. This finish is not only aesthetically pleasing but also adds a layer of protection, making the floors easier to clean and maintain.
